Founded in Moscow in 1931 by Sergei Obraztsov as an experimental laboratory for puppetry, the Obraztsov State Academic Central Puppet Theatre has become one of the leading international institutions in the field. Alongside its performance spaces, it houses one of the largest puppet museums in the world, with thousands of exhibits from more than fifty countries.
