Armen Jigarkhanyan (1935–2020) was one of the central figures of Soviet, Russian and Armenian cinema and theatre. A People’s Artist of the USSR, he built an extensive filmography over a career spanning more than sixty years, portraying comic, dramatic, grotesque and psychologically complex characters. The variety of his roles and his unmistakable stage and screen presence made him one of the most popular and representative actors of Soviet cinema.
