The Bogimovo estate, in the Kaluga Region, was home to Anton Chekhov for a single summer. From 18 May to 4 September 1891, the writer and his family lived on the second floor of the large manor house. Here, Chekhov worked on Sakhalin Island and completed The Duel. During the Soviet period, the building was converted into a psychiatric institution and later became a branch of the Kaluga Regional Psychiatric Hospital, a function it retained until the early 2000s. The photographs bring the literary memory of the house into dialogue with its subsequent use as a psychiatric institution.
